Greek  Mythological figures in Tamil.      Primordial deities   - part-1

       In this   article we will find the etymological      relationship between Tamil and Greek names.  

Titans;

                     The Titans are depicted in Greek art less commonly than the Olympians.

  The  name   Titan   is  a pure Tamil word . If  we have a letter  ‘a ‘    or   Athi  [ primordial]   before  the word  Titan , it   will become  ‘ Athithan  ‘ which    has corrupted to become   A-Titan.

Gigantes  ( giants);

                   Alcyoneus   (??????e??), the eldest of the Thracian giants, who was slain by Heracles. 

                Alcyoneus==Alazhu  yoniyan  ,  the sun god lord Siva

                 Polyphemus   (????f?µ??), a cyclops who briefly captured    Odysseus   and his men, only to be overcome and  blinded by the hero. 

Polyphemis  = Bala  Beeman ;    Bala  Beeman means,  the man,   Beeman with  full strength.  Related name is  Bala Raman .  Bala also means  the  child .  The Tamil word  Pala[ means- many]  is the root word for the English  word  Poly. 

           Odysseus=  Athi  Seyon  or Aathee Saesan .    The Dravidian ‘an' had become  ‘os'  in Greek.

             Orion   (?????), a giant huntsman whom Zeus placed among the stars as the constellation of Orion .

           Orion =  oraiyan . the planet; The sun god; lord Siva;   ‘an'  is the gift  by the  Dravidian  to the world of  languages.

         Porphyrion  (? ??f?????), the king of the Thracian Gigants who was struck down by Heracles and   Zeus with arrows and lightning-bolts after he attempted to rape Hera.  Por phyrion =     par  or por  periyon,  the  red  or the golden  sun.

         Antaeus   (??ta???), a Libyan giant who wrestled all visitors to the death until he was slain by Heracles

     Anthiyan.   Is the original Tamil name of the name Antaeus.

      Anthiyan means the evening sun , sekaran .

Cyclopes        (Elder), three one-eyed giants who forged the lightning-bolts of Zeus.

Cyclos is the corrupted form of the original Tamil word  Sen- kolappan, the sun god Siva   who has the rounded   third eye over his fore head. Cy = se  [red---the red eye];   clopes  = Kolappan   which means  the man  with the rod   -- the  ruler.  Hence cyclopes means  the  ruler  with a red eye over his fore head.

     Aloadae   (????da?), twin giants who attempted to storm heaven.

  Aloadae    in Tamil  means‘ ‘  enormous;  excess'; more.'.  Hence  a person  with excess  physical   strength  can be called as a giant.

The   Hekatonkheires   or Centimanes (Latin), the Hundred-Handed Ones, giant gods of violent  storms  and  hurricanes.

   Hekatonkheries   is  the corrupted form of the Egyptian / Dravidian name      Akhenaten   ko  ori  . yeka Nathan  Ko   ori   in Tamil  means , the only  one   ,  ruler[ko] of the world,  the oraiyan[ori],  Yeka [Akhe]  nathan [naten]   the sun god   who   has  1000 hands.

Latin  name  ‘Centi manes'  is the corrupted form of the Tamil  name  Senthil   maniyan , sun god Murugan , son of Siva.

Abas   — The  name of several mythological figures.

1. Abas, the son of   Poseidon   and Arethusa.   A   Thracian   by birth, Abas founded a tribe known as the Abantians or Abantes. Abas and his Abantian followers migrated to the island of   Euboea, where he subsequently reigned as king. He was father of   Canethus     and   Chalcodon, and through the latter grandfather of   Elephenor, who is known to have accidentally killed him.   Also given as Abas' children are Alcon, Arethusa and Dias, of whom the latter was said to have founded a city Athenae on Euboea. Appan  is the son of  Pasiyappan or  Pasa+ theeyon  and Orai dasi.  He is a Thiraiyan  [ Thee Oraiyan-- or sea farer]  by birth.  Abantian is thre corrupted form of the Tamil name Appan  theeyon. He was the father of  Canithan[  means scholar in  mathematics and  astronomy]  and  Kalcodan  , the kar kodan . the snake of the underworld in Hindu mythology.Abas's children are Alagan , Orai dasi and Theeya.

2.Abas , king of Argos.

 Abas is the king of  Arakkan.

Abas is the corrupted name of the  Tamil name Appan .  appan in Tamil  means the father.

Acamas, son of Antenor   ----   A son of Antenor who fought in the Trojan war on the side of Troy.

Acamus   is the corrupted name of the Tamil name   Akaman  or  Aka  Maan.  Akaman  means' the lord with in one's heart'.

  1.  Acamas   (Ancient Greek:   ???µa?), son of   Antenor   and   Theano, was a participant in the   Trojan War, and fought on the side of the   Trojans. With his brother   Archelochus   and his cousin Aeneas, Acamas led the   Dardanian   contingent to assist King   Priam.   Along with   Aeneas   and Archelochus he led one of the five divisions attacking the   Argive   wall in the battle for the ships. He avenged the death of his brother, who had been killed by   Ajax, by slaying   Promachus   the   Boeotian.   He was killed possibly by   Meriones   in book 16 of the   Iliad ,    but the Acamas killed there was not specifically identified as a son of Antenor.   Quintus of Smyrna   describes him as having been killed by   Philoctetes.

  Akaman  , the son of Anthinan  and Thenan  was a participant in the Thiru [ra]san  war .  and fought on the side of the  Thiru rasans. With ihis brother Arakki lokan  and his Aeinan , Akaman led the Thirai theeyon  contigent  to assist king Priyam. He avenged the death of his brother who had been killed by ajax  , by slaying  Perum magan , the  Paeyo  theeyan.  He was killed  by  Ma  oraiyan.in book  16  of the Oli [ light] Athi  or   Alai [ sea waves] Athi.  Philoctetes is the corrupted form of the Tamil name  Bala Athitan .

 2 .Acamas, the son of   Phaedra   and   Theseus, and brother or half brother to   Demophon, was a character in the   Trojan War.

                                 Ater his father was exiled from   Athens, he and his brother were sent to   Euboea, where they grew to adulthood and allied themselves with Euboea's   King Elephenor. Prior to the assault of Troy by the Greeks, he and   Diomedes   were sent to demand the surrender of   Helen   (this expedition Homer ascribes to   Menelaus   and   Odysseus),   but during his stay at Troy he won the affection of   Laodice, daughter of   Priam,   and begot by her a son, Munitus, who was brought up by   Aethra, grandmother of Acamas.   He was killed by the bite of a snake while hunting at   Olynthus   in   Thrace.

In the war, Acamas fought on the side of the Greeks. After the war, he rescued his grandmother,   Aethra, who was being held captive in Troy as Helen's maid.   Later mythological traditions describe the two brothers embarking on other adventures as well, including the capture of the   Palladium.   Acamas is not mentioned in   Homer's   Iliad , but later works, including   Virgil's   Aeneid , ]   and almost certainly the   Iliou persis , mention that Acamas was one of the men inside the   Trojan horse.   The dominant character trait of Acamas is his

interest in faraway places.     In the 2011 movie Immortals, Acamas is portrayed as the son of the Greek hero Theseus and the oracle Phaedra.

Akaman , the son of Pidaran  and Thee seyon  and half brother of Thee Maa Appan, was a   character in Thee rasan war.

                                        Palldium is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Bala theeyon  and Thesus is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Thee seyon.

  Acacallis---

Acacallis  is the Tamil Aka Kallan.

  Acarnan   (??a????) — A son of  Alcmaeon and Callirrhoe

 Acarnan is  the corrupted  form of the Tamil name  A-  karnan. Karnan means the lord  Siva.

Acraepheus----Acraepheus  is the Tamil Akarai Paeon.

Achaeus  —   Progenitor of the   Achaeans

Achaeus   is  the  corrupted   form of the Tamil name   Achaeyon.  Achaeyon  means   one  who  is responsible   for  the   generation / ancestor/ father/ the creator/producer/writer .    Aakkam  means   to produce ; to create .

Aethra  —   Mother of Theseus.

Aethra  is the corrupted  form of the  Tamil  name Aa thirai.  Aa thirai  means  the primordial sky;  It could also  mean  Athi  Orai-- the star   among  the planets .

Aegiale----Unfaithful wife of Diomedes.

Aegiale  i s the corrupted form of the Tamil name Aathi  oli,    the primordial fire .

Aegialeus-----The name of  several mythological figures.

Aegialeus is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Aa  thee Oilyan[ proper   name].

Aedon - -daughter of  Pandareus , changed into a Nightingale.

Aedon is the corrupted form of the Tamil name    Aathan . It  is the Egyptian  word  Aten .  Aten was  also   a female name in ancient days.

Agamede   — The name of several mythological figures.

Agamede   was a daughter of   Macar, from whom Agamede, a place in   Lesbos, was believed to have derived its name. The town had already disappeared in   Pliny's day.   Ancient Agamede has been identified recently, with the ruins (walls, graves) on a small hill called “Vounaros” 3 km north of ancient  Pyrrha.

Agamede   ( c.   twelfth century BC) was, according to   Homer, a Greek physician acquainted with the healing powers of all the plants that grow upon the earth.   She was born in Elis, the eldest daughter of   Augeas, King of the Epeans,   and was married to Mulius, the first man killed in battle by   Nestor   during a war between Elis and    Pylos.   Hyginusmakes her the mother of   Belus,   Actor, and   Dictys, by   Poseidon.   She was called   Perimede   by both   Propertius   and   Theocritus.   By the   Hellenistic period   (c. 4th to 1st centuries BC), Agamede had become a sorceress-figure, much like   Circe   or   Medea.

Agamedes   — A famed architect

In   Greek mythology,   Agamedes   :    was a son of   Erginus       (or, according to some traditions, the son of   Stymphalus   and grandson of   Arcas).     He was father of   Cercyon    by    Epicaste, who also brought to him a stepson,   Trophonius, who was by some believed to be a son of   Apollo. According to others, Agamedes was a son of Apollo and   Epicaste, or of   Zeus   and    Iocaste, and father of Trophonius. In the most common accounts, Trophonius  was his brother.

                                    The two brothers are said to have distinguished themselves as architects, especially in building temples and palaces. They built   Apollo's temple housing the oracle of   Delphi     A tradition mentioned by Cicero states that Agamedes and Trophonius, after having built this temple, prayed to the god to grant   them  in reward for their labor what was best for men. The oracle told the brothers to do whatsoever they wished for six days and, on the seventh, their greatest wish would be granted. They did and were found dead on the seventh day. The saying "those whom the gods love die young" comes from this story.

                              Agamedes  is the  corrupted form of the  Tamil name  Aga mathiyon    or   Athee  Ma  Theeyon.  Akamathi  is the  female  counter part  of  the male  form   Akamathiyon [ also  Akathiyan   or  Augastus] . Agamathiyon  means' a man with wisdom';  Mathi also means moon goddess. Ma  thee means the Primordial fire god or fire  Goddess.

           Since his brother  Trophonius   was an  associated  architect of  temples   his name  could be  the corrupted form of the Tamil name Thiru pani  yan.  Thiru pani  means   those   works  associated with  temples  . Here it  denotes   temple  construction. One who indulges in Thiru pani is called as Thiru paniyan  which is the corrupted form of the ancient Greek Tropholius.

The people who had the knowledge to build temples   in the prehistoric  period were  the  Dravidians.

Aglaea   (???a?a) — The name of several mythological figures

Aglaea  is the corrupted form of the Tamil name  Akalika.

Agastrophun---Apaeonian ally of the Tojans.

Agatrophun is the corrupted form of the Tamil name  ‘Aka  thee  rooban'[  the lord  who is in my  heart in the the form of fire].

Agrius--The name of several mythological figures.

Agrius  is the corrupted form of the Tamil name A  Kariyan.  Aa  means primordial  Kariyan , the lord Siva ., Greek  Zeus, the  Cariya .

Agron --A son of  Eumelus  who was transformed into a plover  for disrespecting Hermes, Athena and  Artemis.

Agron is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Aa  Karan , Dravidian sun god.

Alcimache  is the corrupted form of the  Tamil name Alagu  Mukhi

Alcimede   — Wife of Aeson and mother of Jason.

Alcimede is the corrupted form of the Tamil name,Alagu mathi. Alagu mathi means beautiful moon. Beautiful woman.

Aeson  is  the corrupted form of the  Tamil name  Esan, lord siva.

In   Greek mythology,   Alcimede   (Ancient Greek:   ; "mighty cunning") was one of the   matrilineal   Minyan   daughters, the daughter of   Clymene,   Minyas' daughter. She was the mother of   Jason   by   Aeson, whom she met in the caves below   Iolcus   in   Thessaly, a   chthonic   lair where the rightful king Aeson had been imprisoned by his evil half-brother   Pelias.

The old story of Alcimede's son Jason and the quest for the   Golden Fleece   is most familiar from a late version, the   Argonautica   of   Apollonius of Rhodes.

Minyan  is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Muniyan. Muniyan means the lord siva . Muni is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Mani.;  Jason is the corrupted name of the Tamil name  Saesen; Clymene is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Kalai mani  . Kalai mani  means the  lord of the Arts and sciences.  Kaalai  means the morning  star.

Alcimedon— The name of several mythological figures.

 Alcimedon is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Alagu Mathiyon  , the male counterpart of the Alagu mathi.

Alcimedon, an   Arcadian   hero, from whom the Arcadian plain  Alcimedon derived its name. He had a daughter named   Phialo, by whom   Heracles   had a son, Aechmagoras, whom Alcimedon   exposed, but Heracles saved.

   Alci medon ,the name of the plain   is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Alagu  Mai  than.  Mai than means the dark- open place, namely the dark sky.  Maidanum  [open ground] is a pure  Tamil word.

Alcimus is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Alagu Maan. Alagu maan means the handsome lord.

Alcmene---   Other of Heracles

Alcmene is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Alagu mani  . Alagu mani  means  beautiful  stone  or the moon .

In   Greek mythology,   Alcmene   or   Alcmena    was the mother of   Heracles.

Alagu  Meena  is the other form of  Alagu Mani.

                                Alcmene was born to   Electryon   (or   Alcaeus), the son of    Perseus   and   Andromeda, and king of   Tiryns   and   Mycenae   or Medea in Argolis .   Her mother was    Anaxo, daughter of Alcaeus and   Astydamia,   daughter of   Pelops   and    Hippodameia         Hesiod   describes Alcmene as the tallest, most beautiful woman with wisdom surpassed by no person born of mortal parents. It is said that her face and dark eyes were as charming as   Aphrodite's, and that she honoured her husband like no woman.

Alagu mathi, Alagu mani ,Alagu Aeena and  Aka mathi are popular names of the women in Tamil Nadu.

Alcyone   — Daughter of Aeolus and wife of  Ceyx

Alcyone is the corrupted form of theTamil  name Alagiyone, the man who is handsome.

Almun--One of the sons of  Sisyphun.

Almun is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Aa la  man  who is lord Siva., the  Aalamar Selvan.

Alagu yani   or  Alagu Yoni  is the original name of the Greek name  Alcyone.

Althaea---Mother of  Meleager.

Althaea is the corrupted form of the Tamil name  Aala  theeya.  Aala theeyan is the male name.

Meleagar  is the corrupted form of the Tamil name  Malai Nagar.  Mallingar  is a proper name in Tamil nadu.

Amarynceus   — A chief of the    Eleans

Amaryneceus  is the corrupted form of the Tamil name  A  Ma  Orai  Naesan.  A  Maa Orai Naesan  means the lover of great primordial  planet , the sun god.   It could be  Aa  Ma  Orai  N  Saeyon .

Eleus   i s the corrupted form of the Tamil name  Eleyan .  Eleyan means   a man of  Humbleness.  Eleus  could be the corrupt form of the Tamil name  Oliyan   ,   the sun god.

Amphimachus   — The name of several mythological figures.

Amphi machan is the corrupted form of the Tamil name   Ambi  Makan.  Ambi makan means the son of Ambi .  Makan =  son . Am  + ba=  Ambi.  Am   or the Amman is the earth [ also the sky] and  ba is the  underworld  or  ocean.  Ambika and   Ambal  are related words.   Ambuli  =  Amman+ ba+ la =  the moon goddess.  Amba samuthiram  is a place near Thirunelveli, Tamil nadu.           Amythaon is the corrupted form of the Tamil name  Aa  Mathyon.

Ancaeus   — The name of two separate Argonauts, each of whom was killed by a  boar.

Ancaeus is the corrupted form of the Tamil name  Ankayan.  Kayan  is the   sky.

Andraemon   — The name of several mythological figures.

Andraemon is the corrupted form of the tamil name  , Indra Maan.

Andreus  —  Son of the river-god  Peneus.

Andreus  is the corrupted form of  Tamil  name  Indran[  Indra + aayan]. Indran is the sun god of Dravidians , later adopted by the Ariyan.

Androgeus   — A son of Minos, king of Crete

Androgeus  is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Indra  Senan.

Antheus   — The name of several mythological figures.

Antheus  is the corrupted form of the tamil name   Antheeyan    or  Anthiyan  which means the evening sun.

Antimachus   — The name of several mythological figures.

 Anthi machan is the setting  sun of  evening  hours.  .

Anthiclus--One of the Greek warriors  who hide inside the Trojan horse.

 Astypalaea  is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Aathi  Palaye..  Palaye amman is the goddess of Dravidian   and she is a fertility goddess.

Atrax;

Atrax is the corrupted form of the Tamil name  A tharan.  Atharan is the primordial  sky god  .Butharan is the earth god.

Atymnius;

Atyminus is the corrupted form of the Tamil name Aathi  Muniyan.Aathi Muniyan is lord  Siva and  it alsio indicates the people of ancient Greece, the Muniyan.
